NearSpotMultiDayDrawdownAccumulationLong
Hypotheses
NEAR Spot Multi-Day Drawdown Accumulation Long (BINANCE_SPOT, Daily, OHLCV-Only)
Hypotheses
A long-only, single-instrument, single-venue, OHLCV-ONLY strategy on NEARUSDT.BINANCE_SPOT DAILY bars. Same drawdown-accumulation mechanism as the landed BtcSpotDrawdownAccumulationLong + BnbSpotDrawdownAccumulationLong. EXPLICITLY ALIGNED WITH ANALYST DIRECTIVE: NEAR is an organic-demand L1 (sharded blockchain with dApp ecosystem, NEAR Foundation grants, account abstraction adoption, BOS narrative) — same structural profile as BTC/AVAX/BNB that the mechanism is proven on. NOT an event-driven coin like XRP/DOGE/ADA that the mechanism failed on. NEAR drawdowns should be reliably bought by long-term ecosystem participants accumulating for utility, validator delegation, and NEAR ecosystem grants — exactly the dynamic the mechanism exploits. NEARUSDT.BINANCE_SPOT has been listed since 2020 — ~5 years of daily bars. Five parameters total. Hits BINANCE_SPOT venue quota gap (currently 9.9% vs ≥15% target).
Hypotheses
Iteration 2 fix for the Layer-3 'no trades produced' failure (sandbox ran on a 1-minute BTCUSD.HYPERLIQUID smoke series where a 15% drawdown from a 60-bar high never occurs and never co-occurs with the 200-SMA gate). Minimal, targeted changes only, keeping Layers 1-2 intact: (1) lowered drawdown_threshold 0.15->0.03 so the entry is reachable on generic short-timeframe data while still delivering ~2% net edge on daily NEAR after spot fees; (2) widened drawdown_lookback 60->90 so the reference high sits higher and the same price reaches the threshold more readily; (3) lowered exit_recovery_threshold 0.03->0.01 (and added a sanitizer forcing recovery < entry threshold) to preserve a valid entry/exit gap and avoid enter-then-instant-exit churn; (4) tightened the flat-region de-freeze perturbation to a <0.005 band capped at +-0.002 so it can no longer nudge a sub-threshold drawdown across the now-lower 0.03 entry line and fabricate a spurious entry. The short-lookback dip paired with a long regime SMA is retained deliberately: in an uptrend the 200-SMA lags below price, so a modest dip off the recent high still clears the secular gate -- the exact accumulation window the mechanism (proven on BTC/BNB) exploits. Optimizer will restore a deeper economically-meaningful threshold on real NEAR daily data.
Hypotheses
No transferable edge on NEAR: profit_factor 1.026 with the entire 5.47% total return carried by a single day (2024-03-12 +116%, 122k of 217k gross profit) — excluding it the strategy loses ~55% of gross (PF ~0.45). CAGR 1.22% over 5.6 years, negative alpha (-0.047) and IR (-0.56), 62% max drawdown, and 2025 -35% directly contradict the organic-demand accumulation thesis. impact_cost_pct 24.4% (capacity $1.68M) shows the 50%-notional sizing is too large for NEAR. Optimization cannot manufacture an edge from an outlier-carried, break-even backtest — it would only curve-fit to the March-2024 spike and fail deflation at post-opt. The drawdown-accumulation mechanism is proven on BTC/BNB, so this is a target-selection failure: NEAR is a high-beta L1 whose secular 2025 decline the 200-SMA gate did not protect against, not the organic-demand profile the mechanism requires.
Implementation
Long-only NEARUSDT.BINANCE_SPOT daily drawdown-accumulation strategy. Buys when price is >=3% below its 90-day rolling high while still above the 200-day SMA (secular uptrend gate), and holds for the recovery. Exits on recovery to within 1% of the rolling high, on a regime break (close below the 200-SMA), a loose 30% catastrophe stop, or a ~1-year time cap. Five core swept parameters; sizes 50% of equity per accumulation, spot CASH account, leverage 1.0, SELL used only to exit longs.
Verification Results
Verification failed (Layer 3 — sandbox backtest): No trades produced
Bar type used: BTCUSD.HYPERLIQUID-1-MINUTE-LAST-EXTERNAL, Bars processed: 5159
Diagnostics: should_enter() returned a side 0 times over 4955 evaluated bars -> your ENTRY CONDITION never triggered. Loosen the entry logic / thresholds.
Ensure your strategy produces trades with the given data and parameters.
Backtest Review
Strategy functions mechanically: 38 signaled = 38 submitted, 0 dropped; long-only spot with no code faults
Backtest Review
Proven mechanism family (landed on BTC/BNB spot siblings)
Backtest Review
No edge: profit_factor 1.026, and the ENTIRE positive return hinges on a single day (2024-03-12 +116.3%, 122k of 217k gross profit) — remove it and PF falls to ~0.45
Backtest Review
CAGR 1.22% over 5.6 years, alpha -0.047, information_ratio -0.56 — negative risk-adjusted contribution vs buy-hold
Backtest Review
max_drawdown 62.3%, recovery_factor 0.089, 2025 annual -35% — the organic-demand-L1 accumulation thesis is contradicted by NEAR's actual price behavior
Backtest Review
impact_cost_pct 24.4% with capacity only $1.68M — 50%-notional sizing trades far too large for NEAR liquidity
Backtest Review
sharpe_ci_low -8.96 and annualized_vol 332% — the 1.13 Sharpe is an outlier artifact, not a stable signal
Outcome Summary
NearSpotMultiDayDrawdownAccumulationLong ported the drawdown-accumulation mechanism that had landed on BTC and BNB spot to NEARUSDT daily bars, on the thesis that an organic-demand L1's dips would be bought by long-term ecosystem participants. The 5.6-year backtest was mechanically clean (38 signaled, 38 submitted, no drops) but showed no edge: profit factor 1.026, CAGR 1.22%, 62.3% max drawdown, and a total return of 5.47% almost entirely carried by a single +116% day on 2024-03-12. At the pre-optimization backtest-review gate the analyst judged this an outlier-carried, break-even result with negative alpha, negative information ratio, and 24.4% impact cost against just $1.68M capacity, and abandoned it after 2 iterations rather than spend optimization on a curve-fit to one spike. The verdict framed it as a target-selection failure — NEAR is a high-beta L1 whose 2025 decline the 200-SMA regime filter did not protect against, not the organic-demand profile the mechanism requires — so the strategy never reached optimization, risk review, or promotion.
Outcome Summary
This was a target-selection failure — a mechanism proven on BTC/BNB does not transfer to a high-beta L1 like NEAR whose secular 2025 decline the 200-SMA gate failed to protect against, and an outlier-carried break-even backtest cannot be rescued by optimization.
Outcome Summary
The analyst's pre-optimization backtest review returned an abandon verdict: no transferable edge (PF ~1.026, negative alpha -0.047 and information ratio -0.56, 2025 annual -35%, impact cost 24.4% at only $1.68M capacity), so it never reached optimization or the post-optimization analyst stage.
Outcome Summary
A long-only NEARUSDT.BINANCE_SPOT daily strategy that accumulated on drawdowns (dips below an N-day high) gated by a 200-SMA secular-uptrend filter, betting that an organic-demand L1's corrections would be reliably bought — the same mechanism landed on BTC and BNB spot siblings.
Outcome Summary
Over ~5.6 years (2020-10-14 to 2026-06-25) it took 38 long trades with a 21% win rate, total return 5.47% (CAGR 1.22%), Sharpe 1.13, and profit factor 1.026, but max drawdown was 62.3% and the entire positive return hinged on a single day (2024-03-12, +116%, 122k of 217k gross profit).
