Assessing CSI Market Data Reliability from Its Documentation and Provenance
Summary
The document collects conflicting observations about CSI Market as a source for current S&P 500 company metrics. One concern is that figures may lack clear dates, making it difficult to establish when they were updated. Another response points to limited company information and contact details as obstacles to evaluating the provider. A separate answer identifies Commodity Systems, Inc. as a Yahoo Finance data provider for historical chart data and daily updates.
A later commenter disputes that identification, saying CSI Market refers to Companies Sectors Industries Market and pointing to an About Us section. The exchange therefore highlights ambiguity in the provider’s identity and incomplete evidence about the freshness and reliability of its figures. It does not verify the accuracy of CSI Market data or resolve whether the comments refer to the same organization. For research or teaching use, the practical lesson is to confirm the source, publication dates, methodology, and provenance of specific metrics before relying on them; the document supplies no independent validation.
Key ideas
- Missing dates make it difficult to assess the freshness of financial metrics.
- Company background and contact information can help users evaluate a data provider.
- The discussion contains conflicting claims about which organization CSI Market refers to.
- The cited exchange does not independently establish the accuracy of the data.
- Users should check the identity, dates, and provenance of the specific figures they plan to use.

# How reliable is data from CSI Market? # How reliable is data from CSI Market? I am finishing up a reference guide for my graduate students on key financial ratios. Would like to include S&P 500 current metrics in my guide. But need to know how reliable is this company CSI Market. Thanks. ## Answer by Connie Daniel (score 4) https://quant.stackexchange.com/a/34955 I have been searching for the same information as I noticed some of my students did use CSI market. What bothered me is that there are no dates attached to the numbers. The only number is the copyright year in small letters at the bottom. ## Answer by Andy Andrews (score 3) https://quant.stackexchange.com/a/42581 In addition, there is no "About Us" tab, which would provide the opportunity to say something about the company, it staff, and other pertinent informations, that would lead one to assess the value of the company's product. I was interested, as a response above noted, in using the data as a source for my managerial economics and forecasting class, but have no links for a contact person to discuss the matter. ## Answer by Eliezer P (score 0) https://quant.stackexchange.com/a/35748 They are a provider for Yahoo Finance of "historical chart data and daily updates". They are mentioned in the "Exchanges and data providers on Yahoo Finance" page under the "Data delays and providers" section. > Fundamental company data provided by Capital IQ. Historical chart data and daily updates provided by Commodity Systems, Inc. (CSI): ## Answer by Karen (score 0) https://quant.stackexchange.com/a/61561 CSImarket is Companies Sectors Industries Market, not Commodity Systems, Inc. as was suggested. And they do have an 'about us' section here: https://csimarket.com/help/About_us.php I realize I'm posting 2 years later (things have updated) but I'm still interested in whether they're reliable.
