Finding Historical S&P 500 Company Fundamentals in Eikon

Article Quant Q&A · Author: Aneta

Summary

The document explains where to look in Thomson Reuters Eikon for historical fundamentals of S&P 500 constituents. A constituent-analysis fundamentals view may show only a current snapshot; the suggested route is the Fundamentals area and its Standardized Financials section, which provides historical annual statements and ratios such as return on assets and return on equity. This is a practical data-discovery tip for researchers building historical company datasets.

The answer is specific to the named platform and its interface, so menu labels or availability may change. It does not give a procedure for retrieving data in bulk, tracking historical index membership, handling restatements, or avoiding survivorship bias. If the historical statements are unavailable, the response suggests that account access or subscription coverage may be the constraint and directs the user to provider support.

Key ideas

  • A current constituent fundamentals view may not expose historical values.
  • The suggested Eikon location for historical annual statements and ratios is Standardized Financials under Fundamentals.
  • Historical fields mentioned include net income, return on assets, and return on equity.
  • Access to the data may depend on the user’s subscription.

# Where to find historical fundamental data of S&P constituents in Thomson Reuters database?

I need data such as Net Income, ROA, ROE, etc. for companies in S&P 500 Index. I would like to see the values also for other years, e.g., since 2010. However, when I log-in to Thomson Reuters Eikon and click on S&P 500 Index -> constituents analysis -> fundamentals, I see only a snapshot of current values.

Can I obtain also historical data? If yes, how?

Thank you very much.

The historical fundamentals can also be found in Thomson Reuters EIKON. In the Menu Bar, click on "Fundamentals". The Snapshot shows recent values. Try to find the "Standardized Financials". There is a good overview of all historical annual statements, including the named Ratios like ROA, ROE. If not, there could be a subscription issue. Call TR Customer Service else.
