LumiBot CLI Templates for Moving-Average and AI-Assisted Trading

Code Lumibot

Summary

This document describes a command-line tool for creating, backtesting, and running editable LumiBot strategies. Its ordinary Python template demonstrates a long-only moving-average rule: retrieve recent daily prices, compare the latest close with a rolling average, buy when price is above the average and no position is held, and sell when price falls below it. Position size is limited by a configurable share of available cash.

A second template separates research from order execution. A research agent summarizes recent prices and evidence without trading; a trading agent checks the account, position, open orders, and current price before applying capped long-only rules. It is instructed to verify order status and reconcile timeouts before retrying. These are illustrative templates, not evidence of profitability. The document gives no performance results, and the AI example depends on model calls and supplied market data. Backtests and paper trading are available through the CLI before broker execution.

Key ideas

  • The CLI creates editable strategy files and provides commands for backtesting and broker runs.
  • The basic template buys above a moving average and exits below it, subject to a position cap.
  • The AI template assigns evidence gathering and trading decisions to separate agents.
  • The trading agent is instructed to check account and order state and verify submitted orders.
  • The templates illustrate implementation patterns but provide no evidence of strategy performance.

```py
"""The `lumibot` command line interface.
Its only job is to shorten the distance between `pip install lumibot` and a
result on screen. It does not replace or wrap the `Strategy` class: `init`
writes an ordinary `Strategy` subclass to disk, and `backtest`, `run` and
`demo` execute that file. The user is left holding editable Python, which is
the point.
    lumibot init my-bot --template ai
    lumibot backtest my-bot --days 90
    lumibot run my-bot --paper
