Mapping Yahoo Finance Exchange Codes to ISO Market Identifiers
Summary
The document addresses how to interpret short exchange labels shown by Yahoo Finance when they do not appear in another listing-exchange code list. The response identifies the labels as abbreviated forms associated with ISO 10383 Market Identifier Codes (MICs), which are used to identify trading venues. It gives a practical lookup method: consult a MIC reference and add an initial X to Yahoo Finance’s three-letter code when searching for the corresponding identifier. Examples in the response illustrate this prefix convention.
This is a reference-data tip rather than a trading method or market analysis. It can help researchers reconcile exchange labels while working with securities data, but the document does not verify every example, explain exceptions, or establish whether Yahoo’s labels are stable across products and time. Users should confirm the resulting MIC against an authoritative current directory before relying on it for data integration or venue-level analysis.
Key ideas
- Yahoo Finance exchange labels in the examples correspond to ISO 10383 Market Identifier Codes.
- A lookup can be made by adding an initial X to the three-letter Yahoo label.
- A MIC directory provides a reference for resolving abbreviated venue identifiers.
- The suggested prefix method is presented as a lookup aid, and exceptions or changes are not discussed.
- Verify identifiers in a current authoritative directory before using them to join market datasets.

Thanks. ## Answer by Dimitri Vulis (score 1) https://quant.stackexchange.com/a/65650 Download https://www.iso20022.org/sites/default/files/ISO10383_MIC/ISO10383_MIC.pdf from https://www.iso20022.org/market-identifier-codes . These are ISO 10383 Market Identifier Codes (MIC). (Zoom to 500% so you can read what it says.) or look at http://www.iotafinance.com/en/ISO-10383-Market-Identification-Codes-MIC.html Look for XNCM, XASE, XNGM, etc. Note that you need to prepend X in front of Yahoo Finance's 3-letter code in order to get a MIC.
