Starting Points for Learning Technical Analysis with Python
Summary
The document responds to a request for a comprehensive source on technical analysis in Python, but it offers only a couple of starting points rather than a structured curriculum. One answer mentions a two-part online course associated with the QuantSoftware Toolkit and notes that the toolkit had tutorials explaining its internals. The commenter reports finding the course too simplistic, so the recommendation is a lead to investigate rather than an endorsement.
Another answer points to examples in Matplotlib that demonstrate finance-related charting. These examples may help readers learn how to visualize market data in Python, but the document does not describe indicator calculations, trading rules, data handling, or a complete technical-analysis workflow. It gives no comparative evaluation of resources or evidence that either suggestion is comprehensive. Readers should treat the references as limited entry points and assess whether they suit their level and learning goals.
Key ideas
- The document points learners to an online course connected with the QuantSoftware Toolkit.
- The cited toolkit tutorials reportedly explain how its library works.
- Matplotlib finance examples can provide a starting point for plotting market data in Python.
- The suggestions are limited resources rather than a complete guide to technical analysis.

# Technical analysis in Python - source of knowledge # Technical analysis in Python - source of knowledge I did my best, but I could not find answer for this one - is there any good and in-depth source of knowledge about using Python for technical analysis ? Obviously, there are plenty of tutorials, blogs etc., but they are scattered around the web. I'm looking for something comprehensive. ## Answer by user8040 (score 2) https://quant.stackexchange.com/a/14023 I'd put this down as a comment, but don't have the reputation to do so. There is (or at least used to be) a two part MOOC course over at Coursera by one of the developers of QuantSoftware Toolkit. This is not an endorsement of the course or the software, just a statement of fact (for the record, I did do a part of the course, but found it too simplistic and dropped out. The library was easy enough to use, though, with extensive tutorials as to its inner workings available online). ## Answer by Matt B. (score 0) https://quant.stackexchange.com/a/14029 Not sure if it helps you directly but matplotlib (a library for graphs in Python) has some examples of use of technical analysis ie: http://matplotlib.org/examples/pylab_examples/finance_work2.html?highlight=finance http://matplotlib.org/examples/pylab_examples/finance_demo.html?highlight=finance
