TRA: Regime-Aware Prediction with Loss-Memory Routing

Code Qlib

Summary

The code implements a time-series prediction model paired with a TRA component that can combine predictions across multiple states. A base model, such as an LSTM, produces hidden representations and state-specific predictions. When multiple states are enabled, a router uses historical losses and, depending on configuration, model representations or temporal prediction errors to assign probabilities to those states. The final prediction combines state outputs during training and selects a state during evaluation.

Training minimizes prediction error and stores normalized per-state losses in dataset memory. A Sinkhorn-based assignment and a decaying regularization term shape the router’s probabilities. The fit procedure evaluates information coefficient and error metrics, uses early stopping on validation IC, averages recent parameters for evaluation, restores the best checkpoint, and can save predictions and logs. The excerpt provides implementation details but no empirical results, dataset description, or evidence that the approach improves trading performance. Its financial usefulness therefore depends on the omitted model and data setup, validation design, and out-of-sample testing.

Key ideas

  • The model combines a base time-series predictor with a router over multiple prediction states.
  • Historical per-state losses are stored and used as inputs to the router.
  • A Sinkhorn assignment and a decaying regularization term influence state probabilities during training.
  • Recent parameter snapshots are averaged for evaluation, while early stopping selects a checkpoint using validation information coefficient.
  • The code reports prediction metrics but the excerpt gives no trading results or empirical comparison.
