Using the Lighter Rust Data Client Starter
Summary
This brief quickstart introduces a minimal Rust live node that connects a Lighter data client to public Testnet market streams and runs a built-in data tester. It is intended to confirm that the data path works before adding trading functionality. The guide notes that execution clients and live orders require credentials, so this starter itself focuses on public data access.
Suggested next steps include selecting another instrument, enabling settings for level-two market-by-price book data, and adding an execution client after data subscriptions are working. The document provides setup guidance but no trading strategy, performance results, or backtest. Its scope is narrow: it demonstrates a basic data connection and points toward subsequent execution setup rather than explaining how to generate or evaluate trading signals.
Key ideas
- The starter runs a Rust live node with Lighter's data client and a built-in tester.
- It connects to public Testnet streams and does not require execution credentials.
- Users can change the instrument and enable settings for level-two book data.
- Execution should be added after the public data connection has been verified.
- The quickstart covers connectivity rather than strategy design or performance evaluation.

# Lighter Rust Data Client Starter # Lighter Rust Data Client Starter This quickstart builds a minimal Rust `LiveNode` with the Lighter data client and the built-in `DataTester` actor. `cargo run` connects to Lighter Testnet public streams. ## Run ```bash cargo run ``` Stop the node with Ctrl+C. The quickstart uses public data only. Execution clients and live order submission need the credential variables documented in the Lighter integration guide. ## Next steps - Change `INSTRUMENT_ID` to another Lighter market such as `ETH-PERP.LIGHTER`. - Enable `subscribe_book_deltas(true)` and `manage_book(true)` in `DataTesterConfig` for L2 MBP data. - Add an execution client only after the data path is working.
