OKX Alt Weekend-Low Failed Breakdown, BTC-Hedged: Buy an Alt Perp That Closes Below Its Weekend Low Early in the Week, Short Beta-1 BTC Perp, Fixed 96h Clock (8 OKX USDT swaps + BTCUSDT.OKX hedge, 1H, pure OHLCV)

Outcome: Abandoned

OkxAltWeekendLowFailedBreakdownBtcHedged

Outcome Summary

The strategy sought to capture failed early-week breakdowns below altcoin weekend lows using long altcoin positions hedged with BTC shorts and a fixed 96-hour holding period. Its supporting prestudy reported a +1.04% mean hedged spread return across 1,316 events, gross of costs, but the pipeline produced no backtest results. After three iterations, a Layer 1.5 consistency failure concerning fixed leverage of 1.5 ended the run before backtesting, optimization, or later reviews.

Hypothesis

Calendar-structure, market-neutral event trade on OKX USDT perpetual swaps. OKX is 2.1% of the corpus, and the design is long-short and cross-sectional; both buckets are under quota. The weekend range is the high and low of the 48 1H bars that close in (Sat 00:00, Mon 00:00] UTC. Weekend liquidity is thin and largely retail, so the weekend low is a crowded stop and liquidation magnet. In the first 48h of the week (Mon 00:00 to Wed 00:00 UTC), the first 1H close BELOW the weekend low takes out those stops; weekday……Show moreShow less

In the first 48h of the week (Mon 00:00 to Wed 00:00 UTC), the first 1H close BELOW the weekend low takes out those stops; weekday institutional flow then absorbs them and the alt recovers relative to the market. In-house prestudy on OKX 1H bars, 2020-2026, 8 pre-declared coins (ADA, DOT, BCH, ATOM, LINK, ETC, DOGE, TRX), 1,316 events, gross of costs. Buying the alt at that close and holding 96h returned +2.05% raw. The BTC return over the same window was +1.01%, so the BTC-hedged spread returned +1.04% mean. By year (hedged): 2020 -1.30%, 2021 +3.97%, 2022 +0.84%, 2023 +0.93%, 2024 +1.03%, 2025 +0.76%, 2026 YTD -0.07%. By coin: 7 of 8 positive (TRX -0.10%, DOGE +3.83% is the outlier and inflates the mean). Win rate is only 47%, so the payoff is right-skewed. The mirror trade, shorting an upside break of the weekend high, measured about -0.4% to -0.5% across hold lengths and is deliberately EXCLUDED. The naive breakout-FOLLOW version on the same data lost about 1% per trade on 6 of 8 coins, which is the same finding seen from the other side: early-week breaks of the weekend range fail. Hold-length sensitivity on the unhedged long side: 72h +1.0%, 96h +2.0%, 120h +2.1%. That curve is flat-ish rather than a spike, but 48h was about 0, so the clock is a real degree of freedom; it is fixed at 96h to avoid tuning it. Mechanism differs from the abandoned DOGE Bybit-OKX dislocation (same-coin, cross-venue spread) and from generic RSI/Bollinger reversion. The trigger is a calendar-anchored liquidity level, not a z-score.

The most under-represented buckets are OKX venue (2.1% vs >=5%), long_short (17% vs long_only 82.6% > 55%), and multi-instrument. This fills all three, uses no supplementary feed (L189), and avoids BINANCE (60%) and BTC as a traded signal (BTC appears only as a hedge leg). Prestudy evidence is shown in the description, including the negative parts (short mirror excluded, the 48h hold about 0, 2020 negative).

verification_loop: Verification failed (Layer 1.5 — hypothesis/config consistency) [class=hypothesis_mismatch]: - optimization_plan fixes leverage at 1.5

Implementation

Buys the first early-week close below each alt's preceding UTC weekend low, hedges with equal entry notional short BTC, and exits after 96 hours or at an 8% hedged-spread loss. Trades eight OKX alt swaps with synchronized 1H bars, at most six concurrent events, and a seven-day portfolio halt after a 15% equity drawdown.

Addresses the reported Layer 1.5 mismatch by explicitly setting config.leverage to the research plan's fixed 1.5. Existing sizing already multiplies equity by self.config.leverage and derives the BTC hedge from the same notional. Trading logic is preserved; only an iteration note changes the source hash. Six fully allocated pairs imply 2.16x equity gross notional, including hedges. The outbox file could not be written because the environment permits read-only filesystem access; the complete bound JSON is returned here.

Verification Results

Verification failed (Layer 1.5 — hypothesis/config consistency) [class=hypothesis_mismatch]: - optimization_plan fixes leverage at 1.5

Iteration History

Verification failed (leverage_set_but_unused): config sets leverage=1.5 but the strategy never references leverage in sizing. Size positions on it — notional = equity * fraction * leverage / price (read self.config.leverage) — or set leverage=1.0. As written the leverage is inert and the backtest is identical to 1x.

Outcome Summary

Ensure the submitted configuration satisfies the pre-registered leverage requirement before proceeding through verification.

After three iterations, the run was abandoned in the verification loop because Layer 1.5 reported a hypothesis/config consistency failure concerning the optimization plan's fixed leverage of 1.5. Backtest review, analyst evaluation, and risk review were not reached.

Buy OKX altcoin perpetuals after early-week closes below their weekend lows, hedge with a beta-1 BTC short, and hold for a fixed 96 hours to capture relative recovery.

The hypothesis cited a gross prestudy of 1,316 events with a +1.04% mean BTC-hedged spread return and 47% win rate. No pipeline backtest results were available, and optimization was not reached.

Backtest and paper results are hypothetical. Trading involves risk of loss.
